CAMBODIA – Expenses & Accommodation

For those who plan to visit Cambodia one day, this could be useful, similar blogs have helped us work out our budget and accommodation during the planning stages & trip.

We spent 19 days in Cambodia staying in guesthouses or bungalows with a double room, fan and private bathroom most of the time.

We ate out the whole time; and often at the guesthouses’ restaurants.

The “Transport” part below includes the buses, tuk-tuks, boat trips and motor bike & bicycle rental.

The “Extras” part includes Temple Entrance fee pass in Angkor (3 days), a few massages, some shopping at markets, some entrance fees, a guide for one day at Angkor and the extra dollars to be paid to the corrupt border officials.

All amounts are in US dollars

Notes: Slightly away from the market square area, on the other side of the road facing the river. Superior to Star Guest house near market. Star had nice food though.

Cost: U$8 per room – Ensuite Bathroom – Fan – No Breakfast – Wifi inc
Notes: Nice stay there. Pleasant staff. Owner not so keen on sharing info (we had read they were great for that), perhaps done it too often? He did however answer all our questions (we had many). Tuk tuk driver and guide were nice and helpful. Laundry is cheaper by half at neighbouring 2 guest houses. Food too is cheaper nearby, but it was very tasty at theirs. Wifi awful all the time, best not to expect it and if it works that will be a bonus. (Internet cafes cheap not too far).

Cost: U$9 per room – Ensuite Bathroom – Fan – No Breakfast – Wifi inc
Notes: French/Cambodian owner. Newish place, try and get a place with a window or get a/c as gets boiling hot in middle rooms. Nice location, not far from action on promenade.

SIHANOUKVILLE

Web: http://www.cambodia-beach.com/coasters/aquarium.html
Cost: U$10 per room – Ensuite Bathroom – Fan – Breakfast inc – Wifi
Notes: Right on the sea which is great.(beach is tiny and not so good for swimming but Serendipity beach is just 2min walk). Friendly staff, pleasant room, nice food. Value for money def. as all other places are behind the beach.

BAMBOO ISLAND (Ko Russei)
"???? "
Cost: U$10 per room – Ensuite Bathroom – Fan – Breakfast – No Wifi
Notes: There were only 2 sets of guest houses on the side the boat arrives (the one on the other side of the island was re-opening a few weeks later). One is called Bamboozle and we stayed at the other one! Very very basic accommodation, elect only at night, cold water shower etc but worth it for a night or 2. We have not seen the rooms on the other side of the island but the scenery there was nice too.
