MALAYSIA – Expenses & Accommodation

For those who plan to visit Malaysia one day, this could be useful, similar blogs have helped us work out our budget and accommodation during the planning stages & trip.

0 °C

We spent 26 days in Malaysia (including Borneo) staying in hostels in a private room, most had shared bathrooms. The accommodation part also included the night on Turtle Island and 2 nights in Mabul for diving.

We ate out the whole time; one can find good, cheap food everywhere.

The “Transport” part below includes return flights to Borneo, underground tickets around KL, intercity bus tickets and transfers to the Cameron Highlands and to the Perhentian Islands.

The “Extras” part includes the day tour in the Cameron highlands, Entrance fees and so on.

The “Diving” section included the 6 dives around Mabul and the 4 dives to Sipadan as well as 2 dives in the Perhentians.

BORNEO TIP: If you plan to do any of the activities we did in Borneo, mainly The Turtles & Diving in Sipadan, you need to book in advance, at least 1 month (or more) before!

Cost: RM50 per night – Shared Bathroom – Fan – Breakfast inc – WiFi inc
Notes: Very very basic. Do your best to ask for a room with window to avoid feeling intense heat and intense claustrophobia. We stuck with a fan but if you have the extra cash and have no window then go for A/C you wont regret it! Cold-ish showers!

Notes: Relaxed atmosphere, nice chilled out place. Tips for which tours to book. Blissfully hot showers (it gets cold up there!). They also have a hotel down the road but no doubt more expensive.
Tip: If you get motion sickness, pop a pill before you set for the highlands, the roads are windy and its unavoidable.
