(Day 149 to 152)
18.04.2010 - 21.04.2010
We left Lima late on Sunday night and arrived at our final destination in Phuket on Thursday midday. This was a long journey to say the least but it was broken up by a few stops in Los Angeles & Hong Kong along the way.
The first stop and really the only one worth mentioning happened during a day long stopover in L.A. We arrived early on Monday morning after an 8 hour flight from Peru and although not a very long flight we didn’t get much sleep. We checked in to a cheap hotel – which looked a lot like a typical motel you see in American movies, with the cramped swimming pool in the middle and right down to the ice-dispensing machine!
Anyway, we had breakfast, a quick nap etc and just about lunch time took the long metro into Hollywood. We had no info on us so just got ourselves to Hollywood Boulevard and set to follow the stars on the ground in a randomly picked direction. Almost immediately the famous Hollywood sign was in sight in distance and it is really quite exciting seeing it for the first time with your own eyes!
We somehow found our way to the Chinese theatre (where the hands and signatures of famous people are) and took a tour of Hollywood, Beverly Hills & Bel Air to see the homes of all the “Stars”. It took us up the well-known Mulholland Drive first to see a view of L.A and take a better pic of the Hollywood sign, then off we went.
We finished up on Sunset Boulevard to see all the posh shops and take our metro back for our next flight.
We then took a 15h flight to Hong Kong; we lost a day in the process because of crossing the date line and arrived there Wednesday morning. We checked into our hotel and tried to stay awake the whole day to adjust to our new time and avoid jetlag – very hard! We succeeded though and where more or less fresh for our flight to Phuket the next day.
