5 months, 8 Countries (incl. Antarctica) and some amazing memories...... Let the next adventure begin.....
It seems like just yesterday we put our brand new week-old wedding bands in the safe, shook off the last of our wedding atmosphere and bid our families goodbye to begin this incredible journey. And here we are 5 months later having completed the first half of our adventure through South America and getting ready for the wonders of South East Asia..
It’s been priceless. There are no other words to describe what we have experienced and no better person to do it with than each other. The experiences we have shared and the things we have learnt about each other and ourselves have only added to the physical wonders we have seen and to the amazing people we have met.
There have of course been times when moving so often has been difficult and the need for the luxuries we so take for granted have been hard to overcome. Simple things like flushing toilet paper!! (Yes nowhere in South America can you flush paper, it all goes in the bin..). Thank goodness these moments of weakness never lasted very long and we leave with the most treasured memories one could ask for.
We have also been VERY lucky throughout South America. We hope it will continue in the second part of our trip as we are not naïve enough to believe we should put our guard down now. But back to the lucky streak.. We missed the earthquake in Chile; then we arrived in Pucon (Chile) the day the volcano opened for us to trek up after being closed by an avalanche for 3 weeks; we missed an earthquake in the Drake passage just before we were meant to go to Antarctica; and just recently managed to go to Machu Picchu the day after it opened again after the terrible rains, floods and mudslides they experienced just a few weeks ago...
Some of our favourite things include:
- Tayrona Park in Colombia
- Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia
- The Slow boat on the Amazon (Colombia into Peru)
- The Lost City trek in Colombia
- Climbing the active volcano in Pucón, Chile
See you in Thailand
